Product Photos That Sell: A Simple Guide for Small Online Stores

By the Creio team · Updated 14 October 2026 · 4 min read

Customers cannot touch your products, so your photos do the selling. You do not need a studio. You need light, a clean background and consistency.

Taking the photo

  • Use daylight near a window. Avoid harsh flash.
  • Put the product on a plain surface, such as a white sheet or a table.
  • Keep the phone steady and the product in the centre.
  • Take a main photo plus one or two of details, the back and the size or fit.
  • Wipe the lens before you shoot.

Keep your store consistent

When every photo uses the same framing and background, your store looks professional and customers browse for longer.

Studio photo in Creio

In Dashboard, Products, the Studio photo button under each product photo removes the background and places the product on a clean backdrop (White, Ash, Warm stone or Charcoal) with a soft shadow. You preview the result and choose whether to apply it, and your original photo is kept until you apply. Starter includes 30 studio photos a month and Pro includes 50, and you can buy extra packs if you need more.

Common mistakes

  • Dark, grainy photos taken in a dim room.
  • Cluttered backgrounds that distract from the product.
  • Only one photo for products that need detail, like clothes or electronics.
  • Photos that do not match the real product, which leads to returns.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a camera?
