How to Start an Online Store in Ghana (Step by Step)
By the Creio team · Updated 14 October 2026 · 6 min read
Starting an online store in Ghana is more realistic than it has ever been. Customers already pay with Mobile Money, many sellers already find buyers on Instagram and WhatsApp, and you no longer need a developer to put a professional store online. This guide walks through the steps, in order.
1. Decide what you will sell
Start with a small, clear range. A store that sells one kind of thing, such as thrift fashion, skincare, phone accessories or snacks, is easier for customers to understand and easier for you to photograph and describe. You can always add more later.
2. Get your basics ready
- A name for your store that is easy to say and spell.
- A phone number you check often. Order alerts go there.
- A mobile money number where you want to be paid.
- Clear photos of your first products, a price for each, and how many you have in stock.
3. Build your store
With Creio you create an account, name your store, pick a look (Classic, Fashion, Beauty, Electronics or Food) and your store gets its own address, like yourstore.creio.shop. You add products with photos, prices, stock, categories and options such as size or colour. Only you can see the store until you choose to publish it.
4. Set up payments and payouts
Customers pay online with Mobile Money or card through Paystack. You give Creio the mobile money number where you want to be paid, it is checked and approved, and after that customers can check out. Paystack pays the money to your mobile money on the next working day. Read more in our guide on when Paystack pays you.
5. Think about delivery
Decide where you deliver, how long it takes and who pays. Write a simple delivery promise and keep it. Customers who know when to expect their order are far more likely to buy.
6. Share your store link
Put your store link in your Instagram bio, your WhatsApp status and your replies to DMs. When someone asks "how much?", send the product link instead of typing prices. The customer browses, pays and you get an order alert. See our guide to selling on Instagram and WhatsApp.
7. Look after your first customers
Update the order status as you go (confirmed, preparing, dispatched, fulfilled), reply quickly and ask happy customers to share your store. Repeat customers are the cheapest sales you will ever make.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to start an online store in Ghana?
Creio has a 7-day free trial with full Pro access. After that, Starter is GH₵59 a month and Pro is GH₵99 a month. Paystack's small processing fee is added to the customer's total at checkout.
Do I need a registered company to start?
Creio does not ask for a company registration to create a store, but you are responsible for any licences or taxes that apply to your business. If you are unsure, ask a local adviser.
Can I sell only through Instagram and WhatsApp instead?
Yes, many sellers start that way. A store link makes it easier for customers to browse, see stock and pay without a long chat.
